MVMT Nordic Walking Teaching Tips - Pole Exercise Idea 'Wide & Narrow'

MVMT Nordic Walking Teaching Tips - Pole Exercise Idea 'Wide & Narrow'

An idea for an exercise to try to help with the awareness of where the arms are in relation to the body when taking the arm back into extension behind the hip. Will also build some strength in the end ranges of movement as the arms are extended for the 'wide' planting. Be mindful with the planting/placement of the pole in the 'wide' arm position that it may need to be gentler than in the 'narrow' position. This exercise is all about trying to help self awareness and discovery of what an optimal position is by taking it to the 'widest' then the 'narrowest' position. MVMT Teaching Tips - Hip strengthening for skiers, runners, walkers

Teaching Tips with MVMT A great exercise looking at hip strengthening. Teaching Tips with MVMT Great exercise for skiers, runners, walkers looking to build hip strength. Isolating one side of the hips and working the other using your own bodyweight. Start with level hips, spine lengthened, in neutral. Keep shoulders level and as you exhale, hitch one hip so that you draw it up towards your ribs/armpit. Inhale to return with control. Great exercise for lateral hip strength, which I use in both my Pilates and Nordic Walking classes.
